Xi Hua Observation | This report from Nanjing Daily is disgusting 03/27/2020

On March 26th, Nanjing Daily published an article titled "For the Well-being of 684 'Foreigners'". Once the article was released, almost all readers felt uncomfortable.

The disgusting aspect of this article is first reminiscent of the most classic report in the history of Xinhua News Agency - "For the 61 Class Brothers".

In 1960, when the country was in its most difficult time, there was a shortage of manpower and resources, and the rescue equipment was not advanced. However, in order to quickly and accurately rescue 61 workers, a real and thrilling scene was performed.

The noble and simple rescue friendship depicted the country's care for the lives of laborers and demonstrated the pride of laborers as the masters of the country. Once the article was reported, it moved millions of Chinese people.

But today, after reading the content and then seeing the title "For the Well-being of 684 'Foreigners'" in Nanjing Daily, it truly desecrates "For the 61 Class Brothers". The certain taste emitted throughout the article not only makes people feel uncomfortable, but also a bit nauseous.

Let's look at the most classic reports in the article:

"Some 'foreigners' only buy 4 pieces of bread at a time to ensure freshness, so we deliver it to their door every day." "The 'foreigners' want to drink bottled purified water, so they bought 4 large barrels at once, and we helped them carry each barrel from the entrance of the community to their apartment."

When I read this, I really feel sorry for the returning overseas student who wants to drink mineral water! She just wants to drink some mineral water, and she is willing to buy it herself. But if you look online, there is suddenly a wave of criticism, and overnight, "When building the motherland, you are not here, but you are the fastest to poison from a thousand miles away" spreads throughout the country, and everyone is filled with righteous indignation.

You should know that when the epidemic in China was most tense, overseas Chinese, including these students, raised anti-epidemic supplies from around the world. The result was just a bottle of mineral water, which made it seem like they had severed their ties.

Let's look at another classic passage in the article:

"One foreign friend bought a large item, and there was no elevator, so we sent two people to carry it to the 4th floor and deliver it to their home." "There is a young person who loves shopping on Taobao, and one day we helped him deliver more than 20 express packages..."

If that Bayer employee and the Australian Chinese woman see this, I estimate that they would definitely cry out for injustice. Why is there such a huge difference in treatment between themselves and these foreigners, even though they are also foreigners? Why did they lose their jobs at Bayer?

So in the report, I saw a shiny phrase: a total of 684 "foreigners" enjoyed "guaranteed services". Yes, it is the word "service", because I often see "management" in many grassroots government reports. Why does it become "service" when it comes to 684 foreigners?

In modern China, poverty and weakness have accumulated, and foreigners enjoying preferential treatment in China has become a hidden pain in the nation's modern history. It is precisely because of this that countless righteous people sacrificed themselves and pursued the dignity and equality of the nation.

Therefore, in 1949, when we heard that the Chinese people stood up, tears filled the eyes of the people nationwide. How is it that after the country has developed to this day, we still unconsciously belittle ourselves and feel inferior in the face of foreigners?

Throughout the content of the report, what we see is meticulous care for foreigners. It would be great if there could be such reports about street residents. Some of the services mentioned in the report are impossible to provide for our own residents, but they are being praised here.

It's not that we shouldn't provide good services to foreigners. But there should not be a distinction between insiders and outsiders, and even more so, on the land of China, foreigners should not enjoy treatment beyond that of citizens just because the government represents the people. How can we favor one over the other?

It's not that we shouldn't provide good services to foreigners. But we should act according to their values. In their market economy concept, enjoying high-quality services requires paying high labor costs. How can we indulge them for free?

In their legal concept, they will naturally respect the laws of the country they are in. In their concept of equality, they only need to enjoy the treatment of citizens of the country they are in.

Human nature cannot withstand tests, let alone temptations. Faced with excessive services depicted in the report, if you provide them without any bottom line, it shouldn't be done, and it's even more disgusting to report it.
