[Online Public Opinion] Beijing imposes mandatory quarantine on Wuhan residents who have not left Beijing 02/29/2020

Editor's Note: There was a video in the original Weibo post, but both the Weibo post and the video are no longer available.

@SeaCatRock: #BeijingMandatoryQuarantineForWuhanResidents# #HuJiaLouStreet# #COVID19# Previously, I saw a post from a friend named Liu Nian @Mok13, who is a law-abiding Wuhan resident who has never left Beijing and actively fought against the epidemic at home. The post was about the forced quarantine of Wuhan residents (the Weibo post has been deleted). As a family member of one of the people in the same situation, I also want to seek justice. We are facing a big wave together, but I really don't understand why the peak suddenly points to us.

My boyfriend is a Wuhan resident working in Beijing, currently living in Hu Jia Lou Street. Since returning from Wuhan during the Mid-Autumn Festival last year, he has had no contact with anyone from Wuhan for the past five months, and he hasn't even seen his father for over a year. When the epidemic started, he responded actively to the call and has never left Beijing while living with me. In the past two months, we have only gone out twice to go to the supermarket, with the most recent time being on February 22nd at the Hema Fresh on Guanghua Road.

Since around the 25th, the community epidemic prevention center, health bureau, and police station have been calling my boyfriend frequently. We have always cooperated with the investigation, providing travel and consumption records. They have also contacted my mother and me to inquire about my boyfriend's situation, and we have truthfully answered their questions.

Yesterday afternoon, more than ten people wearing police uniforms, epidemic prevention suits, and red armbands appeared at our door, demanding that my boyfriend be quarantined. As residents who have not left Beijing for several months, we were very puzzled by this action. Isn't it said that only people returning from other places need to self-quarantine at home for 14 days? When we asked for the reason, they only replied that according to the big data report from epidemiology, my boyfriend is a person of special concern and a close contact, so he must be quarantined. We haven't been out for two months, and we rarely even order takeout. We have been cooking at home, so I really don't understand who we have had close contact with.

They responded that there was a risk when we went to the supermarket on the 22nd (this information was provided by us), and said that everyone who went to the supermarket at that time needs to be quarantined. I am even more confused because I went to the supermarket with my boyfriend. Do I have antibodies? Why don't I need to be quarantined?

After several unsuccessful attempts to demand an explanation for the quarantine, a man wearing a police uniform ordered, "If you don't cooperate now, we will use force to make you go." When we asked the personnel wearing the epidemic prevention suits about the information regarding the cases in the area near the supermarket, they refused to answer, saying it was confidential. If confirmed cases cannot be disclosed, is it unfair to all the healthy residents of Beijing?

Finally, after coordination, we agreed to go to the Crab Island quarantine site with the relevant personnel for forced centralized quarantine after finishing the work on the evening of the 27th. In the few hours before departure, there were volunteers with red armbands guarding our door.

I would like to ask, under the sky, do we still have any human rights?

The following comments are compiled by CDT from the internet:

Seacatrock: This is the so-called big data report results that have been mentioned in the recording, haha

Fei**: This is not appropriate. An explanation should be given.

Su**: I saw what Ge Yu said on Weibo. Street officials in Beijing directly told him that all Hubei residents are being treated the same. This is the explanation.

You**: Yesterday, I commented under Dan Bin's Weibo post about sacrificing the human rights of Hubei people for epidemic prevention, and he singled me out as a big V. Today, I have been criticized all day, accusing Hubei people of being selfish, etc. There is nothing more to say. Take care, sister.

SeaCatRock: Shouldn't selfless Hubei people be executed like infected people in North Korea? How do you define this selflessness... I don't use public resources, I don't hoard epidemic prevention supplies, I actively respond to the epidemic by donating money. I just want to protect myself and stay at home to avoid the epidemic. I don't go out or gather. Is centralized quarantine much safer than staying at home? How to be a selfless person is in doubt.

Yuan******: They are also selfish, selfish for their own interests, trapping all Hubei people and those in Hubei.
